Learn to Row
Our 2023 LTR courses have ended. Please fill out this form to be added to our wait list for 2024!
Attendance: New techniques are added incrementally, so attendance at all sessions is strongly encouraged.

Lifting requirement: We carry our boats to and from the river for each row. This means you must be able to lift approximately 30 lbs up and over your head and carry that weight on your shoulder.

Swimming ability: Although it is highly unlikely that you will flip a boat in our program, you must be able to swim to participate in our rowing classes.
Rowing 101: $75
Prerequisite: Swimming certification, signed waiver
Limit: 12 rowers
This 2-day class for absolute beginners teaches basic rowing technique, boat safety, and gets you out on the water in a rowing shell. You’ll be taught by experienced adult instructors who have coached college and masters rowing programs.

To sign up for this course, please fill out and submit the LTR registration form (step 1), then select Rowing 101 on the book online page to complete your payment information (step 2).

The best ideas begin with: “I’ve always wanted to try…”
If you’ve always wanted to try rowing, here's an opportunity to get started! You’ll row with experienced adult coaches and rowers on the Licking River out of our boathouse in Newport, KY, with beautiful views of downtown Cincinnati. Our Learn to Row program is composed of three phases, with each building upon the one preceding it.
Rowing 102: $250
Prerequisite: Rowing 101, or with permission
Limit: 9 rowers
Think rowing could be your new thing, or getting back into rowing after a long hiatus? Join us for 8 intensive rowing classes that get you started as a competitive or recreational rower. You’ll learn to scull in 4-person boats, spend time on the water perfecting your stroke, and finish your class with a club rowing regatta to show off your skills to friends and family.

Rowing 103: $200
(includes membership for the rest of the season)
Prerequisites: Rowing 101 & 102, or with permission
Limit: 9 rowers

Graduates of Rowing 102 will continue their sculling development with 6 sessions of focused instruction and the opportunity to row with other members of the Club. Following completion of Rowing 103, graduates become Novice members of the Club with full privileges, including being able to row at any of our "Open Row" sessions, as well as the use of club equipment and informal coaching.
